I started menu planning unofficially when Emily and I lived together in college. It was really more of a grocery list with dinner ideas in mind. Of course we made the same meals all the time so it wasn’t that complicated but still, it was a start. Once Emily moved to Boston she did her own version of menu planning which involved having one dinner idea in mind such as lasagna that could be frozen in single servings and then some random ingredients on sale and going from there. When you are barely home and have to carry everything back from the store and up 3 flights of stairs its best to keep things simple.
I on the other hand had to reevaluate how I menu planned when I moved in with my then fiance because rather than helping out with the planning and cooking he simply wanted to know “what’s for dinner?” Some people don’t mind being asked that question every day but I find it really frustrating. In fact determining if this was an appropriate question to ask was our first big negotiation of living together. That is when I started posting the list for the week on the refrigerator and the deal was he was only allowed to ask me if I had already deviated from the list.
It has taken years of progress to get to the point we are at now, which is a super organized system that for the most part keeps us on track. So with that in mind we will share with you some of our menu planning, grocery shopping tips, and kitchen organization ideas with you each Monday as we post the plan for that week.
Much Love, Aislinn and Emily
